Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful WWII U.S. Navy ”Theater Made” fighting knife, 11 3/8 inches in length, with an 6 1/2 inch steel spear point blade. These knives were made by the armorers and engineers, usually in the Pacific theater. The large capital ships needed to have skilled fabricators on board to make repairs and modifications to weapons and gear. Usually the blades were made from existing weapons or from steel components, and the hilts were cast from metals such as aluminum or zinc.
The handle of this knife is made of cast and machined aluminum, which had a slot cut down the middle for attachment of the knife blade. There are finger grooves cut into the handle, which is topped with a very elegant brass ”Propeller” shaped crossguard, very reminiscent of a ships ”screw” propellers, with the rounded blades. The blade may have been adapted from another edged weapon, and is still relatively sharp.
Definitely an interesting piece of WWII Militaria. Ready to display!
